Volta Music Awards’ Failure to Fulfil Their Promise Was the Biggest Setback in My Career – ZyGee Opens Up

Ghanaian musician, producer and songwriter ZyGee has revealed that the failure of a promised record deal following his victory at the maiden edition of the Volta Music Awards remains one of the biggest disappointments of his music career.

Speaking in an interview on Sela Radio, the Anloga-born artiste recounted how he won the Discovery Artist of the Year award in 2018 and was promised a GH¢15,000 record deal package. According to him, the promised support never materialized despite several follow-ups.

ZyGee explained that after the awards, he made numerous efforts to reach out to the organizers regarding the package but received little attention. He further disclosed that although a producer was introduced to him as part of the arrangement, no formal agreement was signed to outline the details of the deal.

The musician stated that the experience taught him the importance of trust and commitment within the entertainment industry. “Don’t promise something and fail to deliver because it breaks confidence and trust,” he said.

Despite the setback, ZyGee remains optimistic about the future of the Volta music industry. He believes one of the major challenges facing the Volta Music Awards is inadequate sponsorship, which affects the ability of organizers to fulfill some of their commitments.

The artiste also called on parents in the Volta Region to change their perception of music and begin to see it as a serious business capable of creating employment and opportunities for young people.

According to ZyGee, healthy competition among musicians is also necessary for the growth of the industry. He noted that competition encourages creativity, hard work and innovation among artists.

Looking ahead, the musician revealed that he remains open to business opportunities, collaborations and record deals that can help elevate his career to the next level.

During the interview, ZyGee also praised fellow musician Prince Faculty describing him as one of the talented artists music lovers should keep an eye on in the coming years.
